Conveniently located to serve the areas of Beverly Hills and Tarzana, CA

For a flatter and more defined waist

Liposuction is a surgical procedure of removing sub-cutaneous fat from the body. The most common area targeted by liposuction are the abdominals in conjunction with a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, which is used to remove excess fat and skin from the midsection to improve the shape and appearance of the abdomen. At the same time, the muscles in the abdomen can be tightened via suturing (plication). The remaining skin and fat is then sculpted to create a smoother, more toned look. The best candidates for a tummy tuck will have excess fat or skin around the area of the bellybutton or a weak lower abdominal wall either due to weight loss or post-pregnancy.

Benefits

Weight gain, especially as you get older or after child birth, can increase the size and volume of fat cells in the stomach, sides, arms, buttocks, and even in the neck and chin areas. Liposuction can not only reduce the volume of fat in these areas, but can reduce the overall number of fat cells. The resulting changes are usually permanent with proper diet and exercise. However, liposuction alone cannot remove cellulite dimpling or stretch marks but certain stretch marks can be reduced or removed as part of a tummy tuck. After thorough examination, Dr. Batal will be able to advise the patient on the best course of action for the best results.

Recovery

A minimum of 5-7 days of downtime is needed for the initial recovery from liposuction depending on the area and scope and scale of the procedure. Tummy tucks will require slightly more rest, up to 1 month in some cases. A follow-up is required after a week to remove any drains and exterior sutures as well as to check on the overall healing process. Patients will be required to wear compression garments 24/7 for the first few days to reduce swelling and promote healing. Mild to moderate bruising will also be noticeable for the first 1-2 weeks. After liposuction, most patients can return to work in as little as 7-10 days, and 2-4 weeks for a tummy tuck.

TUMMY TUCK with LIPOSUCTION OF ABS AND LOVE HANDLES (3 Month Follow-up)

BATAL: “So today I’m doing a three month follow-up after a tummy tuck along with liposuction of the love handles and the upper and lower abs with muscle tightening including rectus muscle tightening. I also did oblique muscle tightening, which shows a nice definition. See how the patient have, uh, hourglass appearance and uh, she is very pleased with the results. We did not do the flanks, so but I took some of the love handles, so she may need to do the flanks later, but at least a love handles did enough work for the angle view and the patient is very happy. What do you think of the work?

PATIENT: “I am very happy. Yes, it’s worth it.”

BATAL: “Absolutely. Okay. Thanks.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF MARKING BEFORE A TUMMY TUCK

BATAL: “So right now I’m showing my marking. The most important landmark I have is the midline. Once you are inside of the surgery, things can change, especially when the patient in different position. So the abdomen need to be defined by the midline. So you can see some irregular I mean, some asymmetry between both part of the abdomen. The other important part here is also the incision initial marking that could change. But the most important part here, I make it very low and anchor to the inguinal ligament. So no matter how much tension on it, it’s take tuck in and stay low. Because those fibrous connection there, I often we fix it, especially in the midline to the fascia, I often see tummy tuck that the incision migrate here become in the middle of the abdomen. And that’s a reason caused by the lack of fibrous fixation and down deep here. All right.”
